Reading Glasses (for Presbyopia)

Reading glasses are perhaps the commonest method for correcting early presbyopia. Cheap ready readers can be easily be obtained 'off the peg' from your neighbourhood chemist or hardware store in Singapore, but these need not be the best way for correcting presbyopia. These ready-made lenses are often made of perspex which does not provide the best optical quality. In addition, patients who suffer from presbyopia may also have some latent refractive error which should best attended by an optometrist.

If your optometrist recommends reading glasses, these often need to be specially prescribed for you using high-grade single-vision lenses. The entire lens hold only one prescription. Therefore this lens type can only correct your vision for one distance only (usually near range vision only) and therefore the spectacles cannot be used for other purpose.

In many instances, patients need 2 pairs of spectacles if they use single-vision lenses. One pair of spectacles is used for far vision and another pair of spectacles is for near range vision only.

IGARD offers many presbyopia options for people who develop middle-age reading difficulties. You may like to book an appointment to highlight your individual concerns during a personalised consultation.
